ST. PETER'S HIGH SCHOOL PROFILE

St. Peter's High School, a parish-sponsored Catholic school established in 1924, represents a rich tradition of Catholic education in the greater Mansfield community. Parishioners have supported educational programs at St. Peter's for over a century. Over 90 percent of St. Peter's High School graduates attend college each year. We are accredited by the State of Ohio and the Ohio Catholic School Accrediting Association. In 1998 St. peter's High School received the Blue Ribbon Award of Excellence from the United States Department of Education. St. Peter's High School has been on block scheduling since the 1996-1997 school year. The schedule is an eight-block schedule consisting of four, 87-minute blocks meeting on alternating days.

DETERMINING GRADE POINT AVERAGES:
Grade point averages for each year are entered on the student's transcript. GPAs are used to determine a student's entry into the National Honor Society and the Honor Roll roster. GPAs are computed by: (a) determining the numeric values for each grade received using the Grade Equivalent Chart; (b) multiplying the credit unit by the numeric value to equal the quality points for that course; (c) finding the sum of the quality points; (d) adding the total units of credit; and (e) dividing the sum of the quality points by the total units of credit. The resulting figure is the GPA. The GPA is unweighted.

CLASS RANK:
Class rank is weighted. When determining the numeric value for each grade received, .3 is added if the course is a Level 2, and .5 if the course is a Level 3.. The students are then listed in descending order according to their cumulative GPAs. The cumulative GPAs start with the first semester of the freshman year; the final GPA is based on the GPAs for each year, which in turn are based on the final grades. The class rank is used by seniors on college applications and posted on the student's final transcript. It also functions to determine the class valedictorian and salutatorian.

OFFICE OF ADMISSION: PLEASE CHECK NOTE ABOUT CLASS RANK

NOTE TO INSTITUTIONS WHICH USE CLASS RANK TO AWARD SCHOLARSHIPS OR DETERMINE ENTRY:
St. Peter's High School is a college prep school with over 90 percent of graduates attending college. We are also small, graduating an average of 55 seniors each spring. Therefore, judging our students on rank tends to be unfair especially if our students are in competition with larger schools with a general or vocational program. For example, since at least half of most graduating classes have a cumulative GPA of 3.3 or better, it is actually possible to be in the bottom half of the classs with a B+ average.

COURSE LEVELS:
All courses required for graduation are Level 1; Honors courses are Level 2; Advanced Placement and higher level courses are Level 3. Post Secondary courses are assigned a level according to the rules of the program (usually Level 2 or 3). The courses listed below are being taught or have been taught over the past four years.
