DEVELOPMENT DEPARTMENT VISITS

Members of the Development Department are having a wonderful time meeting with family and friends in small gatherings in the homes of alumni, parents, and parishioners. Most recently, Elizabeth (Wiecher) ’89, and Brad Pierce in Indian Hill, Cincinnati, and Fritz and Lori Thompson of Mansfield, have hosted these casually informative sessions. Topics in these sessions give a broad overview of work being done in and around our schools and parish. (They’ve also given our new pastor, Fr. Tony Borgia, a chance to meet more of the flock . . . past and present!)

Elizabeth is currently Marketing Director for the University of Cincinnati Surgeons and with husband, Brad and sons Cooper (6), and Graham (4),has recently moved into their newly renovated home in Indian Hill. We had a great time catching up with everyone there. This past week the Thompsons, parents of Madison ’05 and Elizabeth '09, held a wonderful dinner at their place . . . and a good time was had by all!

MONSIGNOR EDWARD C. DUNN FOUNDATION - SPRING DINNER

The annual meeting of the Msgr. Edward C. Dunn Foundation for Education and Teacher Appreciation Night was held on May 4 in new surroundings. This year the event was held in one of the newest facilities in town, Sweet Basil, in the former H.L. Reed Company building. Over 140 guests enjoyed a wonderful evening of good news, good food and good company.

President, Bill Heichel spoke of the historic grown of the Foundation. He reflected back to three years ago when he shared with us the Foundation's dream and goal of the 20/20 Vision plan to raise $20 million in 20 years. He added that we are on track to meet that goal in 14 years. Bill explained that the increase in these funds would translate to an increase in financial support of teachers' salaries.

(l. to r.) Celebrating with elementary/junior high faculty are (l. to r.) Sandy Gonshirski,
Charlotte Reich, Sr. Paula Bingert, Linda Sharp.
Honored faculty member, Karen Geiger, is missing from the photo.

Re-elected to a 3 year term on the Board of Trustees were Chuck Hahn '70, William Joyce '65 and Jane Wiecher. At this time Bill Heichel announced that while he was remaining on the Board, he was stepping down as the President of the Foundation. He announced that Michael Chambers '67 would be replacing him. Mike, who was a member of the Board of Trustees at its inception in 1985 was given a warm welcome.

John Lump '63 introduced Sister Bernard Marie who paid tribute to the 16 years of dedication, hard work and expertise that Bill Heichel has given to the Foundation. On behalf of the Board of Trustees and the parish and school family, she presented him with a plaque marking this accomplishment. John then reviewed the Foundation's financial statement. As of March 31, 2006, the Foundation's total assets were $2,022,128.

Following the business of the annual meeting, Principal Jim Smith '75, assigned his year in review to first year teacher Courtney Hoover and second year teacher Tara Arnold who gave us two unique (hilarious!) perspectives on day-to-day activities in the elementary school. Principal Tressa Reith, saluted her high school faculty and reminded us of how fortunate we are to have such trustworthy role models for our students.

Celebrating with high school faculty are (l. to r.) Jerry Straub, Harry Copper, Elizabeth Castle

Special recognition this year went to Sandy Gohshirski 65' who has been with us for 30 years. Miss "G" spent 29 of those years as our kindergarten teacher and this last year in the Child Care Center. Also recognized was Elizabeth Castle upon her retirement following 25 years in St. Peter's High School. Seven teachers celebrated anniversaries. They included Sr. Paula Bingert '43 - 30 years, Karen Geiger - 30 years, Elizabeth Castle - 25 years, Linda Sharp - 20 years, Charlotte Reich - 15 years, Harry Copper and Jerry Straub - 5 years.
